My mom has Shanklish on the table at least once a week. We enjoy it as a salad with a variety of meals.
Shanklish is a Middle Eastern cheese with a similar texture to feta.
This homemade version is made with only four ingredients possibly available in your pantry. I recommend you try it at least once.
You can play around with the herbs in this recipe for a different finish.
Shanklish
Shankleesh which is part of the mezza, is a semi-hard cheese with a white crumbly texture which is rolled in thyme or herbs.
Ingredients
- 300 grams Feta Cheese
- 1/8 cup Shatta
- 250 grams Labneh
- Zaatar Thyme for rolling
Instructions
- Mix the feta cheese,Labaneh, and Shatta (chilli) and shape into equal sized balls.
- Roll in Thyme and keep inyour fridge up to 1 week.
To make a Shanklish Salad
- Add diced tomatoes and deseeded green peppers. Top with olive oil and serve.
